The Victorian government helps consumers to adopt renewable energy practices.
Hot water:
There are two different rebate systems to assist households to replace their existing hot water systems with solar hot water systems.
The Metropolitan Melbourne Solar Hot Water Rebate is available to assist households in metropolitan Melbourne replace an existing gas hot water system with a solar system or retrofit an existing gas or electric hot water system with solar panels.
The Regional Victoria Solar Hot Water Rebate is available to assist households in regional Victoria switch from gas, LPG or electric hot water systems to solar hot water systems.
The Gas Hot Water Rebate is available to assist households in rural, regional and outer suburban areas. The rebate is available on selected gas water heaters and for households that currently use a ‘day rate’ electric water heater or a water heater fuelled by wood.
Insulation:
The Insulation Rebates provides a 30% refund of up to $300 on the installation of ceiling insulation in homes built before 1991 that have never previously had ceiling insulation. Concession Card holders are eligible for a 50% refund of up to $500.
Gas heating:
In rural, regional and outer suburban areas the State government is assisting households to switch to natural gas heating where available or to LPG heating if natural gas is not available. A rebate is available on selected gas space heaters and some energy efficient gas ducted systems.

This website discusses saving water through permanent water restrictions and using water-efficient products such as the more efficient shower roses.
There is now a range of products you can claim rebates on. These include rainwater tanks, shower roses and AAA dual flush toilets.
There is also a water conservation home audit service to assess where households could save water, with the recommendations to help households do so.
Not for profit organisations such as sporting clubs, nursing homes and kindergartens can also claim rebates for the following water efficiency improvements:
- Water audits
- Retrofitting of water efficient shower roses, dual toilets and flow regulators.
- Maintenance of leaking taps, toilets and showers
- Purchase and installation of rain and/or soil moisture sensors
