Utilit Ease
‘As my husband got sicker our power bills went up—gas in the winter for heating and electricity in the summer for the air-conditioning. We had no choice but to pay it so we went without other things.’
‘I had six weeks away from my home town for radiotherapy, when I got back my power had been disconnected because I had forgotten to pay the bill. The social worker helped me to get it reconnected but then I found out the power people shouldn’t have done that.’
From time to time people with chronic illnesses, their families and their carers experience considerable poverty and distress. Loss of income and increased costs mean that households cannot always meet their bills. Many households are not given information about assistance they may be entitled to.
These webpages will assist households with information and resources to help them maintain their gas, water and electricity supplies and to access energy concessions, relief grants and other assistance they may be entitled to.
