ChIPS (Chronic Illness Peer Support)
Name & Description of Peer Support Services Offered:
ChIPS is a program run from the Centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children's Hospital, targetting young people aged 12-25 who have a chronic illness or health condition. Using a Peer Support and Youth Participation model, ChIPS provides an opportunity for these young people to come together with others in similar circumstances to explore the impact of their chronic illness on their school, social and family lives, and to share ways of living well with their illness. At the same time ChIPS provides an environment where the illness is secondary to the person, so that the participants can just be young people, not a person with a chronic illness. ChIPS offers group programs, camps, socials, events, information, and leadership opportunities through a reference committee.
